-
Zen Portal - Garden GateGateway to private garden, this custom door with shoji screen and motif appears luminescent on approach from alley.
-
Zen Portal - GarageThis functional sculpture was the ideal aesthetic for the antique cedar garage and the decorative asian-style fence.
-
Zen Portal - MotifThe upper section of the door features a port hole fixed at eye level with an original, Asian-style motif.
-
Asian Iron GateAn original design, this folding gate with Chinese-style motif in the center is both decorative and functional.
-
Asian Gate MotifThis original design came in to being by experimenting with lines, right angles and mathmatical proportions. Interestingly, a Chinese style motif was the result.
-
Asian Gate - FoldedWhen this gate is collapsed the motif is transformed into two perfectly aligned half moons. Hinges on the center allow this door to fold in half. A unique locking mechanism was designed to allow the gate to be closed and locked from the left side.
-
Asian Gate - OpenA steel bar on a pivot crosses the two door sections horizontally securing both sides together while a steel shaft gets pushed up into the upper wood jamb, securing the whole gate.
-
Tree DoorFrom solid grounds, base roots transform into trunk, branches radiate upwards and out, sensuous free flowing curves gently taper until they meet an abrupt end. We are reminded, this is a door, it is also a sculpture.
-
Tree Door - unfinishedThis design was inspired by nature and the material that it provides us with. As in nature, this design demonstrates it's qualities of balance, proportion and natural beauty.
-
Tree Door - CarvedThis design serves as a testament to the ideals of reconstructionism. True functional sculpture has been achieved. The material represents a sacrafice, homage is paid to this natural material by means of reconstructionism.
-
Antique Gum-wood sliding wallDesigned for a basement recording studio, this door was constructed from reclaimed antique gumwood that was removed from a house, built in the 1860s, which stood on the south corner of Bay and Breadalbane in downtown Toronto, Ontario. This antique wood is richly figured, tight-grained, and has a lovely colour. A finish of clear walnut oil has been applied allowing the natural colour to show through.
-
Gum-wood Door Back - Oak PaneledThe door was designed to allow the largest possible opening from the studio into the room behind it which contains a large window. It is 7ft high and 5ft wide and recesses into a pocket in the wall. Heavy duty barn door hardware suspends the door on its 10ft track. Both the door and the wall are acoustically insulated to prevent noise bleed from coming into the recording equipment room. The black trim and jam can be easily removed to allow door removal and access to wall pocket for cleaning and maintenance.

The window features two decorative leaded panes with beveled glass that cast rainbows throughout the interior.
